Here is my 2000 Chevy Crew Cab Dually. I bought it new and have been modifying ever since. The most extensive work was done in the suspension category. The third suspension job was done in May of 2002 and I'm in the process of a 4th setup changing a few things from the 3rd. I will try to lay out the info as best I can and if you have any questions just send me an e-mail.
Here are the specs of the truck stock when I bought it in late 2000:
- 2000 Chevrolet Crew Cab Dually
- Summit White Paint
- 7.4 liter (454 ci) MPFI Engine
- 4l80e Transmission
- 4:10 Stock Posi Gears
- LS Package
- Grey Leather Interior
The first suspension job consisted of a BellTech 5/8 drop. Springs and spindles were used up front while the rear got a axle flip kit and a c-notch. This was pretty good for a while but I wanted to go lower. The first step in going lower was installing a AirRideTechnologies 4 link out back and totally ditch the leaf springs. The c-notch was still used here so the truck really didn't get a whole lot lower but the ride quality improved. Finally, the third and, hopefully, final suspension job was done in May of 2002. I took the truck to Street Boutique Customs in Santa Clara, CA for a boxed step notch in the rear and a full front bag setup. This setup will not change too much but new lower control arms and more air capacity are in the works. The list below is my current combined suspension combo.
- (F) Belltech 2" Drop Spindles
- (F) AirRide Technologies Coolride Kit (w/ tubular LCA's)
- (F) AirRide Technologies Monroe Gas Shocks (relocated)
- (F) BellTech 1-ton Sway Bar
- (R) Custom Box Framed Step Notch
- (R) Modified AirRide 4 Link
- (R) AirRide Technologies Monroe Gas Shocks
- Controlled By 4-way RidePro System 1/4" Lines
- 12 Gallon "Tribe" Air Tank
The Escalade swap wasn't something I was going to do but thanks to a bad driver my insurance covered this one for me. I've done a few other things to the exterior and my hope is to keep the mods pretty subtle. The only thing on the to do list right now is going to the body shop to get a little shaving and some paint work done.

The stock 16" steel wheels my truck came with suck. They needed to be tossed for something much better looking and for this I originally chose a set of 16" Alcoa wheels. Those wheels were great. They made such a huge difference when it came to looks the truck looked completely different. I kept these wheel until the decision was made to go to a full air system and I decided I needed bigger wheels. My only option here was to get a custom made set of 19" rollers and that also included a very hefty price tag for tires. I do have a set of stock steel wheels, that have been powdercoated black, with lower profile than stock rubber to use for daily driving duties. Here is a list of my setup.
- Custom 19" Billet Aluminum Dually Wheels by Billet Technologies
- Yokohama AVS Sports 235/35/19
- Stock Steel Inner Wheels
- Yokohama Avid V4 215/55/16
- Alternative rolling stock: stock 16" wheels powdercoated black with GM black hub covers
I also wanted to keep the inside of the truck as subtle as the outside without making everything look boring. So far all I have done is a carbon fiber trim kit, a head unit, and some floor mats. I am currently building a custom center console and looking for another set of leather bucket seats.
- GM 99/00 Cadillac Escalade Gauge Cluster
- GM 99/00 Cadillac Escalade Interior Chrome Door Handles
- Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X959 Headunit
- Custom Floor Mats by Lloyd
- Casper Electronics Headlight Wiring Harness Upgrade
I like driving my big dually. It's safe, I can carry lots of people, and overall people pay attention to where it is so usually people are pretty cautious when driving around me. The only problem here is that the truck is very heavy. Even though I bought this with the Vortec 454 engine I still needed more power. The mods listed below are my current power adders and I don't think much more will go on here. If this motor ever blows up on me I'll probably go for a strong rebuild. Good strong internals with good flow and more boost.
- Whipple Supercharger System
- Whipple Cold Air Intake Kit w/ K&N
- Gibson SS Mid-length Headers
- Dual 3" Exhaust with Flowmaster Muffler
- Casper Electronics TPS Module
- Casper Electronics Post-cat o2 Simms
Even though Whipple doesn't recommend or say any ignition upgrades are necessary I chose to upgrade my ignition system just a little to accommodate the extra fuel and air the engine is using. I plan to add an ignition box soon and an MSD coil upgrade.
